PMA a Proud Partner with Friends of the Land Between the Lakes (LBL)
The guest speaker for the January 27th Mayfield Rotary Club meeting was Elaine Jackson, Executive Director for the Friends of the Land Between the Lakes (LBL) Association. Elaine said we have a national treasure in the 170,000 acres that encompass the LBL. There is something for everyone at LBL – there is Golden Pond Planetarium, the Elk and Bison Prairie, the Woodlands Nature Station, the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm, the Braden Springs Group Center for environmental education facility, plus 106 miles of horse trails, 100 miles of hiking trails, 70 miles of mountain biking trails, the Golden Pond Target Range, 22 boat ramps, 11 designated picnic areas, rustic cabins and 1,400 campsites.
The LBL is operated and maintained by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. The association has recently hired a Special Events Coordinator. There is a Car Show scheduled for March 22nd, they have a Humming Bird Festival, a shoreline cleanup event, and an active volunteer program which they invite everyone to join and participate in to help preserve the LBL. The association is a nonprofit organization that also provides grants to schools for students to attend the LBL.
